Room at the Cross

This post was inspired by my friend Dee, when she told me about the big cross she sees when she looks across the street from her house. This song came immediately to mind. It appears in some modern hymnbooks, but I have verified that it is in Public Domain.

Room at The Cross
By Ira Stanphill

The cross upon which Jesus died
Is a shelter in which we can hide
And its grace so free is sufficient for me
And deep is its fountain as wide as the sea.

Chorus
There's room at the cross for you
There's room at the cross for you
Though millions have come, there's still room for one
Yes there's room at the cross for you.

Though millions have found him a friend
And have turned from the sins they have sinned
The Savior still waits to open the gates
And welcome a sinner before it's too late.

(Chorus)

The hand of my Savior is strong
And the love of my Savior is long
Through sunshine or rain, through loss or in gain,
The blood flows from Calvary to cleanse every stain.

(Chorus)

Wow. That is beautiful, I had never heard of it. I especially like the
"Though millions have found him a friend
And have turned from the sins they have sinned
The Savior still waits to open the gates
And welcome a sinner before it's too late."

And yes, that huge cross is visible from most parts of the house. Even here at my computer desk, I am facing the opposite wall, but the mirror above it reflects that cross. *smile*

I never heard it until I lived in Ohio ('79 - '91). It is in our current hymnal, Sing to the Lord, from the Nazarene Publishing House. It was a favorite of a pastor we had in Tipp City, OH.
